held at Bonita Middle School

Bonita Middle School seventh-grader Miranda Stewart and eighth-grader
Lindsey Williams monitor fellow students as they attempt to put
together puzzles during a visual impairment task center when a
Sensitivity Awareness Workshop, Inc. was held

Fine motor skills are put to the test by students as they cut
out shapes with their opposite hand at one of 10 task centers
during the workshop. |
Lisa Cronin Miller and her husband, Ray Miller, have
created an organization to help people be more sensitive toward
individuals who have a mental, physical or learning disability,
like their 12-year-old daughter Rachal.
Called Sensitivity Awareness Workshop, Inc., the couple
has put together a program that is informative and interactive.
On April 8, students at Bonita Middle School participated in the
workshop which included some discussion on ways people can be insensitive
and how that can be corrected, a DVD of Rachal experiencing life
as a young child but also showing the damaging seizures she had
as a baby, 10 task centers which let students get a hands-on experience
of what it might be like if they were disabled and ending with
students getting a reflective journal folder to complete.
