January 2008 Dear Friends of Sensitivity Awareness Workshop of Southwest Florida, Inc. In 2002 an epiphany took place in my life as I watched a group of typical teenagers react with fear and ignorance towards a group of teenagers that had varying degrees of physical, mental and learning disabilities. The fact that one of the students being humiliated was my daughter, Rachal, had a large impact on the way I reacted. I had the opportunity to ignore it, be victimized by it or take hold of it and make it my own. I can honestly say to you that I poured my heart and soul into making a difference and being an advocate for those that needed a voice. In October 2007 I began a new season of my career with LARC, Inc. as their Director of Community Relations and Education. Roger Bradley is the Executive Director and I am honored to work along side him and the dedicated men and women that serve at this agency. The wonderful news is that I have been asked to continue my Sensitivity Awareness Workshop training as it furthers LARC, Inc.’s mission and goals. LARC, Inc.’s mission is to promote and provide opportunities for men and women with developmental disabilities to live and work in their own communities. Since 1954 LARC, Inc. has been touching the lives of these special individuals and serving them within our community.
